PARKS AND LAKES REPORT

At the Saturday meeting of the IPOIA a report was given by Ron Sikora about the conditions of our Parks. Over the last month Ron and his wife Karen have gone around Ivanhoe to each park, reserve and boat launch area. You might have notice the new bulkhead by the swm area at Charmaine South Park. Due to wave action it was necessary to raise the bulhead to prevent washout. Stairs were installed to give easy access to the water by swimmers. There is still some minor repairs that will need to be made over the next few weeks but work is progressing. Thanks to Jerry and Connie Rudd for mowing this park for our enjoyment.
At the Heli-Pad Park we removed the broken wooden slide structure due to safety concerns. Thanks to Betsy Strong and John Craven for helping with the removal. Also, a big thanks to Joe McIntyre for mowing this park. Chuck Vonderlin keeps the boat launch area mowed at Galahad for us. No need to do a lot of work at Memorial Park because Rusty Harrison takes great care of this area. Currently, due to wave action on the apron of the big dam bouy's are being installed by volunteer's Jerry Wendell and Howard Johnson. I have also talked with many of my neighbors here in Ivanhoe that have taken on the responsibility of mowing the park areas or reserves close to their homes. We do need volunteers willing to help keep our parks clean and mowed. REMINDER : A work day has been scheduled for Candy Cane Park on Charmaine East for Sat. May 21st starting at 7:30 in the morning. Please come and volunteer a few hours to help mow and trim this area. You might have also noticed many new signs going up in the park areas. Thanks to donations we were able to replace many of our signs in the park areas. Here is another opportunity for anyone wishing to help. Make a donation to the parks. We would like to replace the picnic tables and future plans do include replacing or repairing playground equipment. I am also planning on getting all the lake signs replaced. It all takes time and money.....I have the time....ha ha. I will try to post updates as the work is done. Ron Sikora, IPOIA Board Member

City Of Ivanhoe News

Zoning Commission Workshop - May 11, 2011 (Wed.) @ 7 p.m. - Buck Priest Community Center. The purpose of this workshop is to invite the residents of Ivanhoe to discuss the Tree Ordinance that is currently being worked on by the commission before being presented to the Mayor and City Council for consideration.

FROM THE FRIENDS OF IVANHOE

On March 25th and 26th of this year the Friends of Ivanhoe held our 2nd Annual community yard sale and bake sale. Because of your generosity and hard work we once again brought in over $3,000.00. These proceeds were donated to the IPOIA to help keep our parks and lakes operating. Once again, thanks to all who participated!

On April 9th, the Friends of Ivanhoe volunteers donated hot dogs and all the trimmings for over 20 teens and their sponsors as they picked up the trash on our roads. As I talk about this, I would like to plead with you to please watch the trash in the bed of your trucks, as this flies out as you drive and adds to the trash that some people feel they must throw out of their windows! Please help keep out community clean.

On May 28th, the Fire Department will hold its annual barbeque and all the trimmings at the entrance of Ivanhoe. The Ladies Civic Club will be there with their annual bake sale also. Serving starts at 10 a.m. until it runs out, so get there early!

On June 2nd there will be a Friends of Ivanhoe meeting at 6:30 p.m. at the Community Center. We will be handing out pre-sale tickets for the fish fry, planning the fish fry, ice cream sale and Market Day. Please join us as we need everyone's help to make our city a great place to live!

On June 18th starting at 11:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m., Friends of Ivanhoe will hold their 2nd annual FISH FRY! This will be at the entrance to Ivanhoe just like last year. We will have baked goods and drinks for sale too! The food will be cooked by Southern Comfort Catering again. This is the BEST fish dinner you will ever eat! Tickets are $8 and will be available at the IPOIA office or any Friend of Ivanhoe member.

On July 3rd, the Fire Department will hold their annual Fire Works display. This will take place around around 9 - 9:30 p.m. when it becomes dark. There will be hamburgers, hot dogs, french fries, drinks and ice cream bars. The food will be ready around 4:30 p.m. so bring your lawn chairs, come early, and join us for a great 4th of July celebration!!

There will be more later, so keep in touch!
