Yesterday's results in the vote to Incorporate Ivanhoe into a Class "C" city the results were as follows: Ivanhoe North 75 In Favor and 27 Against - City of Ivanhoe 159 In Favor and 52 Against. We will be updating what this means for property owners in the near future.

I JUST FOUND THIS WEBSITE AND I STILL CANT BELIEVE THAT IVANHOE IS BECOMING A CITY. ALL THIS MEANS IS PEOPLE CANT HAVE A GOOD TIME ANYMORE BECAUSE THIS MEANS "CITY" LAWS ARE GOING TO BE ENFORCED. NO MORE FOURWHEELERS ON THE ROADS IS MY MAIN POINT. THAT IS ONE OF MY FAMILIES FAVORITE PART OF IVANHOE AND NOW IT'S GOING TO BE TAKIN AWAY. WHAT IS COMING NEXT???...NO MORE FIREWORKS, NO MORE CAMPFIRES, PAYING TAXES?? THE FOLKS THAT VOTED FOR THIS ARE JUST PLUM OUT OF THERE RIGHT MINDS. I CANT BELIEVE YOU PEOPLE. IF YOU DIDNT LIKE THE WAY IVANHOE WAS BEING RUN...MOVE THE HE** OUT. DONT MAKE IT BAD FOR OTHER PEOPLE JUST BECAUSE YOU DONT LIKE IT.

If it does become like a city and not a rural community anymore, then I will be putting my place up for sale. I bought in Ivanhoe to get out of the city!

I think the incorporation is going to be good for Ivanhoe and its' citizens. The overwhelming majority of residents (at least the ones that took the time to vote) seem to believe it, as well. I could hardly believe the comment that "CITY LAWS ARE GOING TO BE ENFORCED". Laws are supposed to be enforced.
Incorporation will mean funding for roads, the Fire Department, law enforcement and more. As for being "City", it's hardly going to become Houston, or Beaumont, or even Woodville which is still beautifully "rural", and Ivanhoe will be as well. Sure there will be taxes, but that's funding for improvements for all of us. Don't you pay property taxes already? I know I do, and I'd rather pay taxes that will benefit the community of Ivanhoe, rather than Woodville. There's a signifigant number of people that don't pay their HOA dues and that leaves the IPOA with hardly any budget to work with. There are many renters out here and they pay absolutely nothing toward that end. How can the expense of maintaining roads & easements and other expenses maintainging our community be met with no money?
I'll be happy not to have to dodge 4 wheelers on the streets being ridden by children who don't have the experience or knowledge of safety issues involved with just popping out of the woods, when vehicles are coming. It hasn't happened often, but it does happen. It would be tragic if any of them were harmed or killed by the cars and trucks that are on the roads. That'd certainly take the "fun" out of it. There will still be trails for them to ride on. If you can't have fun out here, due to incorporation or law enforcement, then you're not trying. The parks and lakes are going to remain private, for the folks who DO pay their HOA dues and that's fair. I, for one, will be thrilled not to have to smell tires burning as often as they are! Perhaps if the community comes together, the campfire/trash fire issue, as long as they're safely monitored, as well as other concerns, can be worked out. That's a question that can, and should, be addressed at a community Council meeting. Show up and voice your concerns about it.
I'll also be glad not to have dogs running around pooping in my yard. I hope there will be leash/fence laws enacted. It'll be good not to have children and adults, standing in the streets shooting squirrels, rabbits, birds, cats, dogs, etc. ON other peoples' private property, and it happens more than you may be aware of. I'm all for owning guns, and I do, but there needs to be some sense applied to that as well. Children/adults don't need to be running around shooting whatever they want, where ever they want, and this occurs all over Ivanhoe. You don't have to look very hard to see it.
Ivanhoe is being run as well as it can currently afford to run, due to a lack of funds, and the IPOA does a good job considering that fact.
Get involved with the Council meetings about laws (or potential laws) and find out what the "big" plan is, they WANT to hear from all of us.

BTW: What will be the new rules, if any, and where can they be read?
I don't like the idea of shooting going on b/c I love the wildlife, and the safety implications are obvious.
There's a big difference between campfires and burning trash, and I would hope that with incorporation trash pickup might be something we could look forward to. Anyone burning trash should have been stopped long ago even w/o an ordinance.
But campfires and fireworks shouldn't be a problem unless there's a burn ban in effect.
In general, most dogs are okay and have run freely here for years. But any biters or fighters, or those running in packs should be dealt with their owners on an individual basis.
Most people don't have fences unless they live here full time, which applies to us. That means when I go to the cabin I will have to leave my dog at home and pay a dog-sitter, or keep him tied up while I'm here. And even if we put up a fence then he couldn't swim. That would be kind of sad for both of us.
As far as 4 wheelers, golf carts, mini bikes, and the like, I remember that as being one of the most fun things about spending all of my summers at Ivanhoe while growing up. They should never be banned. Ivanhoe roads were always considered private roads, and therefore regular rules didn't previously apply. Will that change?
